About the Artist

William Stanley (“Bill”) Perkins was born August 17, 1893 in Sanford, Maine. He was an infantryman in the First World War and a loom operator at a textile mill in Sanford. His two marriages brought him four daughters: Jean and Mary (with Ruby Fuller) and Rae and Lee (with Rachel Bean). He is also survived by a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

William’s legacy includes many paintings and drawings produced over a span of decades, signed by him in various fashions (often “W.S. Perkins”) but in his later years simply as “William.” William was a friend of the renowned painter Marsden Hartley and his work was admired by Hartley. This gallery is dedicated to William’s artwork.
